The John Oliver Michael House has been a part of our family through five generations beginning with John Oliver Michael and his wife, Minnie Lee Day Michael. Now the proprietors, Ned Jackson Michael and his wife Doreen Larson Michael have restored the homestead preserving its’ old world character. Ned’s main concern during the renovation of his family home was to show respect to its’ past while enhancing its’ future. He has restored the farmhouse and its grounds in keeping with the 20th century. Yet at the same time he has added a quality of modern comfort to every detail. By doing so, he has created for his family, friends and you, his guests, a unique and comfortable setting for any special occasion.

John Oliver Michael built the historic John Oliver Michael House in 1903. As you come up the steps of the open front porch and enter the front door, you will step into the foyer, which leads to the parlor and dining room. All three rooms boast the original virgin pine as the beaded board for the walls and ceilings. The wood used for the beaded board was cut from the trees of the home place. The dining room also features the original fireplace. You will then enter the keeping room, which adjoins the open-plan kitchen, and the sunroom. Also on the first level is a private bath. The stairs off of the foyer lead to the landing on the second level. Here you will find two large bedrooms and a bath. All the flooring on both levels is of the original heart of pine.

As you stroll around the homeplace you will notice how lovely the grounds are and what an ideal location this is for an outdoor gathering, large or small. You will also notice four original buildings each built for a purpose of its own. One was used as a woodshed, another as a smokehouse, the third as a corncrib and the latter was used as a car shelter. They are all a part of a past few people today have ever known. You will have several choices for a unique setting of your own to host your wedding or special event.

Our goal is to provide for you a private and tranquil environment surrounded by elements of nature.

Our desire is that you will leave with wonderful memories of your time spent here. We feel that the John Oliver Michael House has much to offer and we want the opportunity to share with you our past and our future.
